First Year Applicants

Admissions And Visa Application Steps

STEP 1: Admissions Application

  1. Click here to see the list of items needed for a complete admissions application. Then scan and send the
admissions application form and supporting documents to OIP@htu.edu
  2. Once you have been accepted to the University, you will receive an “Acceptance Letter” from the Admissions Office
    notifying you of your status.
  3. The Office of International Programs (OIP) will then send you the I-20 Certificate of Eligibility within a week after receiving
a copy of your acceptance letter from the Admissions Office. Of course, receiving the I-20 is dependent upon you providing
this office with proof of financial responsibility. This is to show the ability to meet financial obligations for the first year
of college costs including tuition, fees, and living expenses

STEP 2: F-1 Visa Application

  1. Upon receiving the I-20 from OIP, you should pay the SEVIS fee in addition to the visa application fee. You will need to take
the SEVIS fee payment receipt with you on your visa interview, so print and save a copy.
  2. After paying your SEVIS fee, next you must apply for your F-1 visa at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in your country.
Visit the Department of State for information on how to apply for your F-1 visa interview.

STEP 3: F-1 Visa Interview

The following documents are usually required on the day of your visa interview. However, it is always good to check with the local US Embassy to know exactly what documents will be needed.

       • DS-160 barcode page – from Visa Application.
       • Receipt/proof of payment of Processing fee (see I-901).
       • I-20 or DS-2019 Certificate of Eligibility.
       • Valid Passport (valid for at least 6 months from the start date of your acceptance).
       • Passport style photo which should be 5 X 5 cm or 2 x 2 inches.
       • Financial documents. You must prove the financial information on your I-20 is correct.
       • University Acceptance letter.
       • Information on your degree program and how you intend to use your degree when you return home.
       • Evidence of ties to your home country such as family, career or property. Your visa will be denied unless you can
prove to the consular officer that you intend to return home.
       • At the consular officer’s discretion, you may also be asked for other information.

STEP 4: F-1 Visa Received

Once you have received the F-1 visa, notify the OIP as soon as possible. The OIP will then provide you with instructions and a list of documents needed upon arrival in the U.S./Port of Entry.

NOTE: Upon arriving on campus, you must schedule an appointment with the OIP to do an immigration check-in.
